It’s been some time since our last release of Pivot. Today, after much hard work, we are excited to announce version 0.10.27, which represents a significant step towards a more holistic data exploration experience. The new Pivot ships with Imply 2.0 and includes some frequently requested features, including settings, where you can manage data cubes within Pivot with an easy-to-use user interface, Collections, which are simple yet handy dashboards, user logins, and geo map and heatmap visualizations.
Historically, Pivot’s configuration has been managed through a text file which had to be edited manually. Pivot now comes with a brand new Settings view, where you can easily configure data cubes and create derived dimensions and measures.
Note that the old YAML config file is still being supported.
Collections are Pivot’s approach to dashboards. With Collections, you can bring together useful or insightful Pivot views and display them on a single view, which you can share with your teammates. From within a collection you can expand a visualization tile to full size, explore it or make changes within the familiar exploratory view.
At long last, we’ve added the Geo visualization, where you can see your geo data distribution on a world map. The Geo vis supports common actions such as zooming, panning, and filtering. The supported bucketing at the moment is by countries, but we will be adding more granular geo bucketing in future releases.
The heatmap visualization lets you compare across two dimensions. It is particularly good in finding general patterns and anomalies. Furthermore, every tile in the heatmap is fully filterable.
User logins is a frequently requested feature of Pivot. You can now create logins for users that can be used for authentication and to change settings. We plan to greatly expand these capabilities in the future. Pivot can also perform authentication via existing LDAP/OAuth services via external bridge modules. These features are disabled by default, and can be turned on through configuration.
